
Barry has extensive experience of research and consultation methodologies in the education sector. He worked for 19 years for the Qualifications and Curriculum Authority and its predecessors as a key member of its research team, undertaking and advising on questionnaire construction, focus groups, research interviews and public meetings. For four years, Barry ran QCA’s national data- and information-collecting Monitoring Curriculum and Assessment project, which involved teachers and pupils in over 1000 schools.
Barry ran internal workshops at QCA on consultation and data collection methodologies. He has also given lectures in British Universities and taken part in seminars, and run workshops on the National Curriculum and its evaluation in Britain and abroad.
After leaving QCA in 2006, Barry gained a Masters Degree in Arts Management from City University. During this period he was involved with several data-collection and evaluation projects in arts and culture – in which field he is now a consultant. Barry is the Institute’s Commissioning Editor and in this capacity he has written two books for The Institute: Effective Focus Groups (2007) and Effective Public Meetings (2008).
