Effective Public Meetings

The Public Meeting poses many problems for those who have to organise public consultations or community involvement. It is unpredictable, and possibly unrepresentative; it is also deeply embedded in the expectation of citizens and community stakeholders.

This is an opportunity to consider key issues. Morning topics include:- When and Where not to hold them; Attracting the right audience; Minimum access requirements; Briefing Speakers; and Handling aggressive or disruptive elements.

Afternoon roundtables provide an opportunity to work alongside fellow consultation professionals to agree best practice and to identify issues requiring further consideration in your own organisation. Such Workshop-style sessions are excellent for generating new ideas, crystallising existing conclusions and will help participants organise more effective public meetings in the future.

Following the Roundtables there will be a session devoted to New Technology and Public Meetings.

The course counts for 20 credits towards the Institute's Certificate of Professional Development
