Implementing the NHS Duty to Involve
Section 242, of the 2006 NHS Act, obliges Health Trusts to consult the public on changes to services, and will increasingly become an important part of many Managers' responsibilities as the NHS seeks to become more responsive to local people. Many other service providers are also affected by changes to Health Services particularly those local authorities with responsibilities involving LINks.
So, for both Health services and local authorities, this course will be essential to widen their understanding of the S.242 provision and how to engage in consultations under it.
The Course tutor is Brenda Cook, assisted by Sally Brearley. Both have extensive experience of public engagement in the Health Service, and as Institute partners are well able to place the consultation duties on the NHS in the wider context of public participation generally. Brenda is the author of a series of national guides on health scrutiny and is a recognised authority on Local Involvement Networks (LINks).
The course presents an explanation of the legal requirements and draws upon best practice to advise participants on the best methods available to meet these obligations. The afternoon is devoted to putting theory into practice through fully-interactive Workshops.
The course attracts 30 credits towards the Institute’s Certificate of Professional Development
