Deliberative events show the increasing sophistication of public and stakeholder consultation. Reduced reliance upon crude opinion surveys and the inherent drawbacks of public meetings and other traditional techniques have led leading-edge organisations to deploy more sophisticated methods of dialogue. These include stakeholder conferences, Citizen Summits, Deliberative Workshops, and, of course, (much misunderstood) Citizen Juries. This is the first course developed specifically to help people understand deliberative approaches to public engagement and consultation. It draws upon both Involve’s and the Consultation Institute’s extensive knowledge of the advantages and disadvantages of various models, and features the recently-agreed Nine Principles of Deliberative Public Engagement published by Involve and the National Consumer Council. Attendance at this course gives 30 credits towards the Institute’s Certificate of Professional Development Members receive £80 discount when booking this course
