2010 Aims
In 2010, the Institute will focus on five main themes:-
- The ‘Duty to inform, consult and involve’ – Section 138 of the LGPIH Act 2007 - now extended to more organisations
- A new training course on Implementing the Duty to Involve
- In-house Workshops available to help Councils apply the statute to local conditions
- Executive Briefings available for Chief Officers and elected members
- Comprehensive engagement strategies, working through Local Strategic Partnerships and across agencies
- New membership option available for LSPs; ask for details
- In-house Workshops available to help Partnerships co-ordinate public engagement programmes
- A special training course for Consultees – Responding to Consultations can help Third Sector partners
- The Local Democracy Act 2009 – with 2 important new obligations – the duty to promote democracy and the duty to respond to petitions
- ePetitions roundtables already successful. More to come
- Technologies for Participation events regularly feature e-petition solutions
- Citizens and Community Panels
- The Institute’s Annual Panels conferences are always very relevant. The 6th Conference will be this Autumn in London
