Maimie Thompson

Institute Associate Profile

Maimie became an Associate in 2020 with over 25 years of experience in leading the delivery of public consultation and major service change. She has worked almost exclusively in Scotland and for the past 18 years in health and social care. In 2020 she co-designed the public engagement for the Scottish Government on the vision to provide health and care appointments by Near Me video consultations.

She worked for NHS Highland between 2003 and 2018 initially supporting National Collaborative Programmes before taking up post as Head of Public Relations and Engagement in 2011. In this role, she successfully led some of Scotland’s most comprehensive and contentious health and social care consultations, including four major re-design of services. This included overcoming some long-standing opposition including public protest. Through these works, she gained considerable experience in working with public and patient protest groups.

Before joining NHS Highland, she worked in high profile conservation projects and has a background in research.
