Martin Evans

Institute Associate Profile

Martin Evans is an associate of tCI and has over 37 years’ experience of leadership, communications, marketing, PR and dealing with the media, in the public sector and latterly with his own company, TandemComms.

Martin started working life as a generalist manager in the NHS but then took a different career path when, after 6 years in the NHS, he joined the Royal Air Force and served for nearly 20 years, before retiring as a senior officer. Having worked in various challenging scenarios in that period, he developed essential diplomacy, negotiation and crisis communications skills with multi-audiences and international organisations from Afghanistan Government Ministers, NATO, UK Government and indeed local communities.

He left the RAF to rejoin the NHS as a Comms Director for a large NHS mental health trust, serving the communities of South Staffordshire and Shropshire. Over a 9 year period, he led on communications and engagement for formal public consultations and significant service change.  He was the comms lead for the merger of the Trust with community services to become a huge joint provider, successfully navigating the political and community engagement challenges.

Now as Director of his own communications and PR company, he provides comms support to public sector and business and runs highly sought after courses in media training, presentations skills, crisis communications, senior team impact and more.

Helping organisations tell their unique story in whatever channel and forum, is his passion.

In his downtime he is an adrenalin junkie – mountain biking, canoeing and mountaineering but recognising older bones don’t repair quickly, he also spends much time playing guitar and harmonica in his own band.
