Sue Cavill

Institute Associate Profile

Sue is an experienced engagement, consultation and communications specialist.

After working in PR, communications and industrial editing, Sue joined the NHS where she spent 15 years, including roles as a PCT Associate Director of Communications and Engagement and as Head of Engagement and Consultation for a CSU. This work included close collaboration with local authorities.

In the NHS Sue developed a passion for ensuring that the voices of patients and the public are heard, through effective and accessible engagement and consultation, particularly the voices of ‘seldom heard’ groups. She also saw the need for NHS staff to understand the reasons for and benefits of consultation and developed her own teams to be skilled in carrying out public consultations.

Having led 19 public consultations within a four year period, Sue has an in depth understanding of the strategic thinking, stakeholder engagement and appropriate planning required to ensure effective and statutorily compliant engagement and consultation activity.

As an Associate with the Consultation Institute, Sue has worked with NHS teams around the country, and is keen to continue supporting high quality consultations and ensuring that people’s voices are heard. Outside of work, she is a pianist and runs a couple of book clubs.
