We wanted to share NHS Cheshire CCG case study with you around continued engagement. They call it ‘Cheshire Chat’. In response to Covid-19, they have adapted how they engage with local people and encourage feedback around their commissioning. You can find out more or even watch the event here.
Cheshire Chat
NHS Cheshire CCG
______________________________________________________________________________
Date: Thursday 21st May 2020 – 6.30pm
The objective: As an NHS organisation NHS Cheshire CCG has a legal obligation to engage with people who live and use the NHS services in Cheshire.
With our patients, public and stakeholders we want to ensure that we’re able to give them a voice meaning they can shape and drive local healthcare.
Previously we held face to face meetings around Cheshire to engage about commissioning and future plans, using feedback to inform the decisions around commissioning
The preparation: As a CCG we are open to innovation and exploring new ways, regularly reviewing and adapting our communications and engagement to reflect new tools and methodologies to constantly improve our approach. Having carried out a desktop review of best practice we can find no other CCG to have taken a wider engagement approach out-with the life changes COVID-19 we therefore took the opportunity to explore different digital engagement channels and Cheshire Chat was moved to an online webinar event.
For the event we used GoTo Webinar due to its functionality which allowed us to broadcast our event live and take questions/feedback from our audience
Promotion was through:
- Social media
- Email invites to stakeholders. (The event was open to anyone)
- Copy to local Healthwatch for their website and social media
- Tiktok videos of commissioning colleagues to share on all channels
- Link to survey where people who couldn’t attend, could leave comments and questions
The content: Following the letter from Sir Simon Steven (Chief Executive of NHS England) the focus was around the following:
- Cancer – Dr Katherine Butler
- Mental Health – Lesley Cleworth, Mel Brown, Dr Ian Hulme
- Primary Care – Dr Andy McAlavey
The event was chaired by Tracey Cole, Executive Director of Strategy and Partnerships opening with information around the CCG response to Covid-19. Thereafter each presenter had 10 minutes to present (some used slides) their update and take question from the attendees.
Closing the loop: A total of 60 people attended and feedback received has been very positive on social media with a reach of just under 20,000. There was one negative comment received when a participants question wasn’t answered on the evening. We want to be open and transparent therefore all question, answers, slides and copy of the Webinar is available on the CCG website here:
The learning: Following a debrief there is buy-in from all staff to host further events every 8 weeks keeping to 3 topics and the one hour time slot. This will give us a continued snapshot of the views of our local people whilst using feedback and comments to shape the future commissioning intentions of the CCG.
