FOLOWING the enthusiastic reception of the Canvey community to an initial presentation of the draft masterplans for Canvey Seafront in December, the consultation process has been widened to allow more people to view and comment on the plans.
A display of the plans has been installed at the Waterside Farm Leisure Centre and people are encouraged to drop by and take a look at this exciting vision.
The plans are an important step in the regeneration of Canvey Seafront.
Development of a detailed vision that has widespread public support is crucial to achieve appropriate development on the seafront and a pre-requisite to underpin any requests for government funding.
The display is expected to remain at Waterside Farm during January and early February and the Regeneration Team at Castle Point Borough Council is keen to hear your views and suggestions.
The masterplan outlining a future vision for Canvey Seafront has been developed by professional architects Bell Phillips on behalf of the Castle Point Regeneration Partnership.
The process for development of the masterplan has included extensive consultation with key stakeholders representing local businesses, government and community groups from Canvey.
The masterplan has been through initial reaction testing with the public through face-to-face drop-in sessions that took place in December at the Knightswick Centre and Canvey Library.
The aim of this exercise was to undertake preliminary testing of the new vision with the public before proceeding to a more comprehensive engagement process.
The reaction to the vision presented at the drop-in sessions was overwhelmingly positive. The results of polling showed that almost 90% of people approved of the new vision – of the remainder, 2.6% of people did not want any change to the seafront and 7.8% of people wanted to see an alternative vision.
Canvey Seafront has proved popular with young families and older people who enjoy visiting the area. As part of this the Canvey Island Coastal Community Team want to plan a way ahead to address some of the local challenges and capitalise upon additional opportunities for the area. It is expected that the masterplan will build on the current popularity to further enhance the area to create a quality destination for the local community and visitors.
Coun Ray Howard, chairman of the Coastal Communities Seafront Subgroup said: “This project represents a significant step forward in the continued renaissance of Canvey Seafront. It provides an opportunity for local stakeholders to contribute their ideas to help achieve a great future for Canvey Seafront.”
