A DECISION to hold a public consultation on the use of a household waste site near Llanarth has been sent back to Ceredigion County Council’s Cabinet for further review.
The Cabinet had agreed to extend its contract at Rhydeinon household waste site for six months while a review of its future, including public consultation, was carried out.
However, this decision, along with three others approved last month relating to waste transfer sites, were called in by three councillors who wanted more information.
Cllr Marc Davies, Lyndon Lloyd and Euros Davies raised concerns about removing a service from a rural area, increased fly-tipping and the lack of scrutiny committee views prior to a recommendation going to Cabinet.
At a special meeting of the thriving communities overview and scrutiny committee on 3 May, councillors resolved to ask that a decision not to extend a waste transfer station contract at Beulah go back to Cabinet.
Members wanted a breakdown of the £40,000 savings identified by not renewing the contract that was coming to its “natural end” in June.
The decision made without these figures was questioned by a number of committee members.
“It’s very disappointing that Cabinet has passed it without seeing figures, they haven’t had the break down,” said Cllr Euros Davies.
Cllr Lloyd said there was concern in the community that “services are reducing in the south of the county”.
Aberaeron councillor Elizabeth Evans had conducted a survey on Facebook about the Rhydeinon site and received more than 700 responses from people all over the area who use it.
