An Aberdeen community council has urged the council to extend its consultation on roads issues in the area.
The city council is looking to gather public opinion on behalf of a third party to identify problems in Garthdee Road and some potential solutions. Chairman of Garthdee Community Council, Paul O’Connor, said he’d first been contacted by the authority as it hoped to hold a public event in the community centre. He said locals would welcome the opportunity to take part but believes the time-frame is too tight and should be rethought.
Mr O’Connor said: “There are several issues surrounding the road that I would like to see resolved, such as the junction of Craigievar Road and Garthdee Road, where tailbacks occur in all directions when a bus stops. I think the consultation is a good idea but the proposed date would have given me just 10 days to organise and get the word to the community. It is a fantastic opportunity if our views are listened to, but they need to get it right.”
He added that if the community council was contacted directly they would make every effort to make the community aware and help with proceedings. Local residents took to social media to tell the council the time period identified for the consultation was “unacceptable”.
