Consultation Responses: Quality vs Quantity
The Perfect Blend | Session 8
Date: Tuesday 10th May
Time: 10am
Obtaining meaningful consultation responses and listening effectively to the public through consultation is a challenge. If decision-makers are to do better than knee-jerk reactions to opinion-poll data, care is needed to select consultation methods that provide the most useful and meaningful insight into the issues.
There is no shortage of methods. Some provide quantitative results, in that they are based upon understanding how many people or groups believe something, and others provide qualitative results. By this we mean ways of appreciating what they mean, and the dynamics of a debate.
How does your organisation navigate the minefield of consultation methods? What is the relationship between quantitative and qualitative methods? Does it have to be a choice of one or the other?
Join the discussion as we share the Institute’s latest thinking on the concept, as well as what constitutes good practice. Members are encouraged to share their thoughts, including actions, techniques and methods they typically deploy.
