Council launches another public consultation on changes made ‘in response to public feedback’

Thameswey Developments Ltd has proposed amendments to plans for huge regeneration project.

Sheerwater residents are being invited once again to give their opinions on further changes to the area’s regeneration scheme.

Woking Borough Council granted planning consent for the wide-ranging regeneration of Sheerwater in July 2016, but since then developers Thameswey Developments Ltd has put forward a number of amendments.

According to a council statement, the changes are “in response to public feedback to the original application and requests for improvements by the council.”

Members of the public will be able to view the amended plans and give their opinions at an event on Thursday (January 18) at Parkview Centre for the Community in Blackmore Crescent.

The event will be held between 2pm and 9pm and is being run by Thameswey Developments, the council’s wholly owned company established to deliver major projects like the Sheerwater regeneration.

The plans approved in 2017 provided for 984 homes, including 462 affordable homes, along with a new retail centre, sports and leisure facilities, a community centre, health centre and other amenities.

According to the Sheerwater newsletter published by the council in December 2017, the updated plans could see an increase in the amount of public open space and housing, including a higher number of smaller, affordable homes.

The first phase of the regeneration is expected to begin in summer 2018, when construction works starts on the new leisure facilities.

However, the regeneration has encountered strong opposition from some residents, who have objected to the loss of the Sheerwater recreation ground and athletics track, a loss of green space and the apparent lack of communication from the council.
