Scottish Government asks for public’s views on city and region deals

A Holyrood committee has asked the public to make their views known on city and region deals – like those in place for Aberdeen and Inverness.

The agreements aim to grow regional economies, boost employment figures and more.

Glasgow is the third city to have a deal in place with Edinburgh and Stirling in the pipeline and a joint proposal being considered for Perth and Dundee.

The Scottish Parliament’s local government and communities committee has now asked residents and businesses across the country to express their views on if they think the deals are achieving their goals.

The convener of the committee, Bob Doris MSP, said: “The original city deals brought the opportunity for significant investment from both Scottish and UK Governments to boost local economies outwith London.Conference brochure

“There was much excitement and anticipation around the additional investment, which could be of strategic benefit to local economies and communities.

“Our committee now wants to examine this from a local government perspective.

“We want to hear from the general public, organisations and businesses, on whether they think city region deals are on track to deliver local growth and innovation across Scotland.”
