Incentives for public participation
The Consultation Institute is currently working on a piece of research around the efficacy of various incentives and rewards that are offered to encourage participation in public consultation and engagement activities. I am getting in touch today to invite you to share your experience of using incentives to contribute to our research.
When using incentives, we know that it can be difficult to:
- Strike a balance when deciding what incentive is most appropriate, proportionate and fair for different types of 1) stakeholders and 2) activity.
- Ensure adequate representation
- Ensure responses to engagement and consultation activities are meaningful
As part of this research, the Institute is collating examples of different types of incentives offered for various activities to understand current practices, experiences and challenges in using different type of incentives and draw out good practices. We hope to share the research and examples with you in due course.
To contribute to this research, we invite you to share your practice and experiences in using incentives by taking part in an 8 minute survey. We will ask general questions about the context of the consultation or engagement activity, the type of incentive offered, the uptake and your views on the outcome of the activity.
Alternatively, there is also an option to schedule a brief 10–15-minute conversation with Sheena Ahmed to run through the set of questions and answer any questions you may have.
If you have any questions, please get in touch with Sheena Ahmed.
