Online Reflections on 2021
At the end of 2019, I wrote an article reflecting on the first full year of the Institute’s e-Learning offering. As we recently passed the milestone of 1000 unique students, it felt appropriate to provide another reflective summary of e-Learning and Video Production, and its importance during the pandemic.
The trend for e-Learning has generally been on the increase in recent years, accelerated further when the country was plunged into lockdown in March 2020. Our public and in-house training were indefinitely suspended, and the interruption to client’s projects and consultations meant people were able to dedicate more time to personal development and upskilling.
Consequently, the total number of students has more than quadrupled since the pandemic began, attracting both existing and new clients.
New Developments
We have doubled our course offering since the beginning of the pandemic, this includes the ambitious four-hour Law of Consultation Online, a conversion of the successful public course which we’ve ran since 2012.
We improved accessibility to our suite by adding subtitling to all courses. This will now be applied to all future releases.
Finally, as we passed the third anniversary of our first-ever course, The Consultation Charter; it was felt a revamp was required. The course, available free to members, was given a fresh look, new voiceover, and an update to content, in light of the pandemic.
Growing trends
Since the pandemic, bulk-buy packages have become the most popular way for clients to purchase e-Learning. Buying in bulk can save your organisation up to 30% on courses. Managers have been keen to upskill team members and train new ones and our e-Learning courses function as a fantastic starting point for that.
In the last 18 months, we have also helped organisations such as Tower Hamlets Council, Healthwatch England and Belfast Council by providing bespoke e-Learning and explainer videos for their internal use. You can find out more about our work with those organisations here.
Moving forward
The Institute remains dedicated to adding to our existing suite of courses. In early 2021, we will be releasing a course titled ‘You’re Asking Me?’ aimed at consultees and their response to consultations. This will be available as both a free taster course and a larger, more in-depth offering.
In addition, we will soon be releasing a course on consulting on Nationally Significant Infrastructure Projects (NSIPs).
