Speaking in Brussels about Open Legislation
As most of you will know, tCI has been working closely together with the Chinese government on online participation/consultation in policy-making. In the Summer of 2014 a delegation of the Chinese State Council for Legislative Affairs paid us a visit at our HQ in Biggleswade where we introduced them to the public consultation standards and best practices we uphold here in the UK.
Fraser Henderson, an Institute Associate, recently went to Brussels to talk about Open Legislation, the idea that the public can comment (online) on draft legal bills. Fraser was a guest of the European Citizen Action Service, an international non-profit organisation who was hosting the event. In his presentation, Fraser stated that “getting online public feedback on draft texts is highly valuable and should be the default position.”
The Institute’s close collaboration with the EU-China Policy Dialogue Support Facility and other international bodies and institutions proves that there is a great need from all parties involved to learn from each other and to share experiences and knowledge. The Institute is all too happy to help.
