Strong public interest sees council consultation extended

BRADFORD Council’s public consultation on parking in Ilkley is to be extended following strong public interest in the authority’s recommended proposals.

The consultation, which was due to finish on October 12 will now end on October 19.

Bradford Council is proposing to adopt the recommendations of a parking review conducted by consultants, Steer Davies & Gleave but wants to know local people’s views on them before the final decision is made.

The recommendations include:

• Permit parking in residential areas immediately surrounding the town centre.

• Prohibited parking areas to improve traffic flow.

• Town centre pay and display parking with an initial free grace period.

• Additional disabled parking bays.

• New loading areas.

Two drop-in meetings held last week were well attended and people have requested another opportunity to provide feedback.

Additional consultation sessions have been arranged at the Clarke Foley Centre, Ilkley on October 8, from 1pm to 7pm. Council Officers will be in attendance to explain the proposals, answer questions and record feedback.

There is no need to book for the event, anyone interested can just turn up.

The proposals are available at www.bradford.gov.uk/consultations where people can provide feedback.

Councillor Alex Ross-Shaw, Bradford Council’s Executive Member for Regeneration, Planning and Transport, said:

“We’ve had a lot of responses to our proposals so far with over 90 people showing up to one of the consultation events. With this much interest, we felt it would be prudent to extend the consultation period a little and put on an extra event to give people more opportunities to look at the proposals and provide feedback.”
