In last weeks newsletter, the Institute republished an article from the newspaper Devon Live. The story was ‘MP urges CCG to “stop bogus consultation”.
Here is a link to the article.
The stories that appear in the newsletter are from a variety of sources, mainly local newspapers. The Institute cannot confirm the accuracy of the stories and in our experience, there may be some that present a sensationalised or biased perspective.
Since the publication of the newsletter, the Institute has welcomed a response from the Clinical Commissioning Group which has clarified the situation down south.
Response:
“Last week (September 22) the Consultation Institute reprinted a story from a local newspaper in Devon which said that the local MP had accused the NHS of running a ‘bogus consultation’ over the future of a community hospital.
“The NHS in Devon is pleased to have been given to the opportunity to correct the impression given by the article. In fact, the NHS in Devon is not currently running any consultations.
“An NHS trust is, however, involving local people in discussions over operational concerns at a community hospital and has set up an independently-chaired stakeholder group to consider the issues. This group consists of county, district and town councillors, GPs, trust representatives, the voluntary sector, League of Friends, Healthwatch, as well as community and patient representatives.
“The key purpose of the group is to oversee and support the operational activity being undertaken to address the concerns which need to be addressed before inpatient services can resume.”
“At no point has the local NHS launched any form of public consultation in relation to this issue and we are happy to make this clear.”
