Using Social Media in Consultation.

Fifty-five minutes on using social media to broaden the reach of a consultation.

Starting point Written for limited social media experience
01 Why it matters

A whole new dimension to your work

Today’s society is more connected than ever before. The opportunity to go online is now available at home, at work, on public transport and across cities and towns.

The way we live our lives has been drastically changed by connectivity and the rise of social media. The wide reach and functionality of social media brings new methods to connect, inform and engage. From a consultation perspective, it can add a whole new dimension to your work.

Produced by the Consultation Institute, with subtitles throughout. The intermediate course Digital Engagement takes the same ground further with a trainer.

02 What topics will you cover?

Three topics, fifty-five minutes

The middle topic gives the challenges the same weight as the benefits.

01
Social Media in public consultationWhere it sits alongside the formal channels you already run: what it is good for at each stage, from pre-consultation awareness through to feeding back what changed, and where it supports the statutory process rather than standing in for it.
02
The benefits and challengesWhat it reaches for you, and what it costs you in moderation and control: the audiences the formal channels miss, the speed and reach you gain, and against that the resource, the risk of a hostile thread, and the question of how far the responses you gather there can carry weight.
03
Tips and tools to aid your social media useHow to use the platforms, starting from very little: choosing which ones are worth your time, writing posts people actually respond to, and the free tools that handle scheduling, listening and reporting for you.
What will you achieve? An understanding of…

How social media could be used within your public consultation
